FolksbieneRU presents their popular series, KOMPOT, an interactive get-together for the whole family on January 29, 2017.
Klez! KOMPOT will feature a musical klezmer extravaganza, hands-on experiential workshops, and storytelling for families
Zhenya Lopatnik and “Litvakus” klezmer band led by Zisl Slepovitch will present an engaging interactive edutainment program for families with kids of any age. They will sing and play Eastern European Jewish tunes, tell about their instruments and even teach the audience a few secret words in klezmer-loshn, the Yiddish musicians’ argot!
An interactive experiential group Art Project workshop will be led by educator Maria Budnitsky
Litvakus, “One of the more unusual bands on the New York klezmer scene” (The Jewish Week). is a unique klezmer collective led by Zisl Slepovitch, and the first to focus exclusively on the music and culture of Belarus and Baltic region. The Litvakus repertoire is a mix of traditional Belarusian and Litvak (Belarusian Jewish) folk music, as well as original contemporary pieces written in the spirit of roots music. Songlines magazine (UK) called the Litvakus’ album Raysn: the Music of Jewish Belarus “an extremely welcome arrival on the Jewish music scene.”
