  • A unique and authentic Yiddish theater experience.
  • Entertainment options include musical comedy revues, concerts and guest speakers.
  • English and Russian translation supertitles make Yiddish performances accessible to non-Yiddish speakers.

The Folksbiene Outreach program is dedicated to bringing Yiddish Theatre to audiences who are unable visit us, especially to communities of Holocaust survivors. We are also striving to bring performances to new audiences who may not have experienced how fresh and enjoyable Yiddish culture can be.

Our Current Touring Productions are The Folksbiene Troupe In

Mama's Loshn Kugel

and

Makht A Tsimes!

A Traveling Yiddish Revue featuring classic songs and sketches from the Yiddish Theatre.

The Folksbiene Troupe (or Di Trupe) is a group of young people who have come to the Yiddish world in their twenties and thirties and are passionate about finding their artistic expression through performance in the Yiddish language. They have all learned Yiddish, as adults, through YIVO's Uriel Weinreich Summer Program, The Workmen's Circle and The Jewish Theological Seminary. The Troupe performs in Yiddish, rehearses in Yiddish and even socializes in Yiddish.

Di Trupe was formed as part of The Folksbiene Outreach Program in the autumn of 2004. By January 2005 they were presenting their first musical revue Mama's Loshn Kugel. To date, Di Trupe has performed for audiences in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Long Island, Westchester County, Upstate New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Washington D.C. for audiences of Yiddish speakers and non-Yiddish speakers alike, Holocaust survivors and their families, recent immigrants from the former Soviet Republics, students and Yiddish enthusiasts. Di Trupe looks forward to performing in every city where a Yiddish word can be appreciated.
